Master Diver
The highest non-leadership certification in diving: The Master Diver course helps students develop instructor-level knowledge and skills — without having to become a dive instructor in the process. However, for those who do aspire to diving leadership, this is the first step in the process.
Students in the Master Diver course become proficient in several specialty areas including: deep: navigation: night diving: search and recovery: and, underwater mapping.
Who Can Take This Course?
To take this course, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be certified the NASE Rescue Diver level (or equivalent).
- Have completed and logged a minimum of 25 dives or 500 minutes of Actual Bottom Time.
- Be able to answer No to all questions on the NASE Medical History form, or secure a physician’s approval for diving prior to the start of the course
What is Involved?
The NASE Naster Diver course consists of:
- Self Study: Using the NOAA Dive Manual and a variety of other materials.
- Multiple Open-Water Training Dives: A minimum of eight instructor-supervised dives covering a variety of specialty diving activities. Students are to log at least 240 minutes of Actual Bottom Time during the course.
The dives are designed to expose students to a variety of realistic open-water environments, allowing them to apply skills and knowledge from previous scuba training to new experiences and conditions.
What Equipment Will You Need?
Required equipment for this course includes:
- Mask and fins
- Adequate exposure protection
- BC and regulator system
- One full cylinder per dive
- Dive computer or depth gauge and timer
- Underwater compass
- Dive knife or cutting tool
- Primary, backup and tank marker lights
Depending on the dive site and planned activities, it may also be prudent to have items such as audible and visual surface signals. Your instructor may have further equipment requirements.
